1Embroidered Touch Experience
What is Embroidered Touch?

When you play the surface of Embroidered Touch textiles, you create your own sensory experience, learning as you go, using sound and touch. When the grid pattern of insulated wires embroidered on the textiles senses your touch, you can play field recordings from urban spaces and nature walks, plus recorded string and percussion instruments. The wires function as touch sensors that elicit soothing sounds. You can meander through sound and touch to create an individual soundscape for a healing sensation.

Where can I buy an Embroidered Touch textile?

You can buy it directly from us. Anke Loh Studio is located in Chicago, USA. We would love to work with you on custom orders and commissions for a special person, for yourself or for a special place. You also can order from our inventory of textiles.

How long does it take for custom orders:
That depends on the design size and finishings. Most custom orders are delivered within 2-3 months.

Shipment:
Currently, we only ship within the USA. If you are interested in discussing international shipment, please contact us directly.

Can I use the Embroidered Touch app on my TV?

The Embroidered Touch app communicates with Embroidered Touch textiles using Bluetooth, so you can use any device that has Bluetooth.

Although most TVs do not have a Bluetooth chip, if you have an Apple TV or an Android TV with Google Cast, you can download the Embroidered Touch app on your smartphone or tablet and share your screen. (links to Apple and Google tutorials).

You can also connect your display using an adapter or cable from your Bluetooth device to the TV (depending on your TV inputs).

Can I listen to the Embroidered Touch sounds using speakers?

You can connect your Bluetooth device to speakers directly using a sound cable. The sound will not play on Bluetooth speakers because the Bluetooth connection is already linked to the Embroidered Touch textile.

How do I turn on my textile?

There is no switch on the Embroidered Touch textile. Simply connect the circuit board to a 5V DC power bank or a 5V DC adapter with a USB-C cable. A green light will illuminate on the circuit board to indicate your textile is ready to link to the app.

Always remember to unplug your textile when you’re not using it to save battery power.

Can I change the power bank?

Yes, you can use any 5V DC power bank to power your Embroidered Touch textile. We recommend using at least 5000mAH models, so you can use your textile for several hours before you’ll need to recharge your power bank.

Can I connect my textile to a wall outlet?

Yes, you can connect your textile to a wall outlet using any 5V DC adapter, the kind you use to charge your phone, and a USB-C cable. Our advice is to use at least a 1A model to be sure that your circuit board works properly.

How do I take care of my Embroidered Touch textile?

Be sure to turn it off after each use. Keep food and drink away from your pillow or wall hanging.
Your Embroidered Touch textile is not a toy. Be sure to closely supervise children who are using it.

Can I wash my Embroidered Touch textile?

No. It should not be immersed in water. You can use a damp sponge to remove any stains. Avoid the area around the circuit board.

How do I calibrate/recalibrate my textile?

Because Embroidered Touch textiles are sensitive to their surroundings, you might have to recalibrate yours from time to time, particularly if you change location, if there is a change of atmosphere, which can be affected by temperature, humidity, the number of people around, and other factors.

The first time you connect your Embroidered Touch textile, the app will guide you through the easy calibration process. If you want to recalibrate a textile while using it, click '+' then click 'recalibrate.'

How do I change the name of my Embroidered Touch textile(s)?

On the connection screen, click the settings button , then click 'rename'.

Type your very own Embroidered Touch textile's new name. This name is only available to you on your device.

How do I change the sound palette?

The Embroidered Touch app features different sound palettes. To change the sound palette while using your Embroidered Touch textile, click '+', then 'Switch sound palette' and choose your 'palette'. Once it is loaded, close the menu.

4Troubleshooting
First things first!

Be sure to watch and follow along with the demo video:

I cannot install the Embroidered Touch app.

To use the Embroidered Touch app, you need a recent Android or iOS phone or tablet.

The app does not detect my textile.

Please follow the steps below:

  • Is the green light visible on the board?
    • Is the board connected to a 5V power bank?
      • Connect the board to a 5V power bank.
      • Is the power bank charged and fully operational?
        • Charge the power bank, connect it, and try again.
        • Disconnect the power bank from the board and then reconnect it. Then, go to the following step.
        • Is Bluetooth enabled on your device?
          • Close the Embroidered Touch app, go to your settings and activate your Bluetooth. Open the Embroidered Touch app again.
          • Click on the (icon) "try again" button.

If, after following these steps, you still do not see a green light or there is still no connection, there may be a problem with the circuit board on the textile.

Contact Embroidered Touch Customer Service/Tech Support.

There is no sound at all.

Please follow the steps below:

  • Is your volume on your device loud enough?
    • Turn up the volume.
    • Are you touching your textile?
      • Touch some lines. Does it work? If not, go to the following step.
      • Do you see animations on the screen?
        • Recalibrate your textile (See section 3). Does it work? If not, go to the following step.
        • Visit this page (link) from your device (using your favorite browser) and click "play". Do you hear anything?
          • It seems that your device does not work properly. Please try with another phone or tablet.
          • Close Embroidered Touch app and try again from the beginning.

If, after following these steps, there is still no sound, there may be a problem with the circuit board on the textile.

Some lines do not play any sound nor animation.
  1. Recalibrate your textile (see section 3).
  2. When the animation screen appears, is there any warning message on your screen? If you see
    Some lines seem broken
    on your screen, your circuit board requires servicing.

The sound is not clear.
